How to Start and Market Your Online Business Successfully

If you’ve always struggled with customer acquisition, patient acquisition, and just getting your business rolling up to the level that it should be but can’t figure out what the problem is, you are at the right place. Today I’m here to give you a few hacks to scaling up your business and living your best laptop lifestyle.

A while ago I had a conversation with my good friend Miro Posavec and we discussed how people underestimate the power of a good website with good content. As an online entrepreneur, your biggest challenge is customer acquisition. If you didn’t know this yet, your customer acquisition can be affected by your website. Look at your website right now and ask yourself this, “Does it make me want to buy things from it? What are the aesthetics? Is it compelling enough?” 

You can spend as much money on campaigns as you want but if you are bringing all traffic to your website and people are not buying then you have a huge problem. So what is wrong with your website? I’ll give you a couple of general hints.  

So How Do You Get People To Buy Your Stuff?

  1. Advertise yourself properly.

The first mistake most entrepreneurs make is not advertising themselves properly. Most people would want to convey how great they are and would display their accolades and qualifications, however, that is not enough. The key is to highlight how you can solve your reader’s problem. It’s about what you can do for them. That is what is most likely to catch their attention. 

  1. You have to market your website.

The second mistake we as entrepreneurs coming into the space make is we put up a website and think that that is automatically going to drive us traffic. I hate to break it to you but it’s not. There are millions of websites out there which is why you have to market yours. 

You really have two options if you want your business to grow. Option one is you get very good at marketing on your own, and it’s gonna cost you a lot of time and money. Or you can just hire somebody to help you. And this is a very hard pill to swallow because people usually complain that they don’t have the money to hire somebody. But I’m telling you now, you’ve got to spend money! Chances are you know nothing about marketing, or you think you know and you won’t realize until it’s too late.

  1. Find a niche

Find your niche and try to figure out how you can get your target audience to find your product and buy it. How are you going to convince them to spend money on you? You have got to build that foundational trust with your customers. But keep in mind that the world is super competitive right now, having a great product, and great service is just a minimum standard.

  1. Be willing to spend money. Lots of it.

So if you’re starting a business, and you’re interested in really growing it, you’re going to have to spend money,  just buckle up and do it. Because if you are cheap skating and doing everything yourself in the name of saving money, it will be a good 5 or 6 years before you make money from any of the websites that you’re running. So ask yourself now, is being cheap really worth it? 

Make sure you hire website experts to build you an up-to-standard website for your business, a website that is alluring and makes people want to buy your products. Otherwise, marketing companies will turn you back if your website looks terrible. There is no point in sending traffic to a site that’s not going to convert, you’ll just be wasting money.

As I mentioned before, Marketing is also going to cost you an arm and a leg. Google Advertising company’s minimum $5,000 a month. And I know for a newcomer that seems like a million dollars. So make sure you have your ducks in a row before approaching them.  

  1. Pay attention to detail.

Check if your content is doing what you want it to do. The graphics, the copy, the SEO, etc. You need to accept that in order to be successful you need to pay attention to detail, especially in the online world, you have to do everything right. And this all ties together your email campaigns and your texting campaigns, your AdWords, your Facebook, and all these individual pieces. They all have to be done at a high level to compete, cause that’s the catch, and I CANNOT stress this enough! As an online seller, you have to remember that you are going up against  Amazon, and all these giant companies that have data and billions and billions of dollars. You can’t slack and depend on luck. 

I personally want to see every single person succeed, I want to see everyone do well that’s why I run a consulting business for eCommerce sellers. But I also want you to have a reality check. If you think you can start a website up on your own, and think it’s going to magically get all these organic hits, I’m telling you now that that’s not realistic. You can’t just put a website out there and expect to get a bunch of money out of it. You’re going to have to do a lot more than just put it up. Your site has to be compelling, has to be visually appealing, has to build trust, has to convert, and then you have to find different ways of driving traffic. And there is no one magical solution. You need to decide whether you are willing to put in the effort and then run that campaign. If the campaign doesn’t perform, take a deep breath, and try again. You have to keep doing that if you want to really have the option to grow that business online. And to be very successful.
