  2. Coordinate a Service (You offer the service, outsource it to a freelancer and manage the project, you deliver the service)
  3. Work after Instructions are Provided (You follow provided instructions, work on tasks, and earn money doing it)

OFFER A SERVICE:

Reddit Subreddits to Follow (many I found searching reddit for “freelance websites”:

r/OnlineBusiness

r/freelance

r/upwork

r/dropservicing

The steps to offering a service are as follows:

  1. BRAINSTORM: Make a list of things you like doing or are good at doing. These might be things you do at work already or as volunteer work. For example
    1. Make Flyers
    2. Design Social Media Posts
    3. Make short videos for tik tok or youtube
    4. Review products
    5. Draft Emails or publications
    6. Design T-Shirts
    7. Take Pictures
    8. Teaching
    9. Coaching
    10. Manual Labor Skill such as organizing, painting, sewing, laundry, cooking, fixing a lawn mower, etc.
  1. Figure out what services people are asking for. Get data from –
    1. Your Industry – Cyber Security, Retail, etc (for example, I got started writing product listings for Amazon sellers because I didn’t want to hire it out anymore. So first I hired it, studied what they offered, researched online to learn how to do it myself, then designed and posted my services)
    2. Your Neighborhood groups and discussions (nextdoor.com, thumbtack.com, Facebook groups, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist)
    3. Freelancer Websites (Fiverr, Upwork, comprehensive list on https://moderndayjobs.com/)
    4. Narrow down your list to the ones you’re most interested in
  1. Decide on the delivered product (Final Product)
    1. From your list of the potential services you could deliver, choose the easiest one to get started with and decide what your final product will look like and write it down. This is what your customer will get.
      1. For example: With product listings they get a document with a title, 5 bullet points, a product description, and instructions for updating their listing on Amazon Seller Central
    2. Determine the steps to take to get to the final product
      1. Determine Information needed from Customer to do the work – determine what information you need by studying other offers requirements or doing it for yourself. WRITE IT DOWN
      2. Determine what your work process will be after receiving the customer requirements/order and how long it will take you to do the work (what is your process after receiving the customers requirements in your format?) WRITE IT DOWN
      3. Determine anything you need to learn and LEARN IT by watching youtube, reading blogs, and practicing.
  1. Design the offer – now that you know what you will offer, what you will need from the customer, your process from start to finish, and how long each order will take you, you can design the offer.
    1. Create the copy writing explaining who it’s for, what the offer is, what you will deliver, how long it will take, and your pricing. Then copy and paste this into your freelance website forms. Each website has slightly different requirements so you may want to DRAFT AS YOU FILL OUT THE FORM
      1. If you’re offering more of a local neighborhood service such as laundry or lawn mower repair, list on Facebook marketplace, thumbtack, nextdoor, craigslist, neighborhood groups, etc
    2. Create an image to communicate your offer to customers searching for it. Use Canva.com and create custom dimensions based on the platform requirements.
  1. Advertise the offer and get your first customer
    1. You should tell people about your offer and it should be an AMAZING deal!
      1. There is a subreddit called r/slavelabor that will allow you to offer your service nearly free to get your first order.
      2. Post it on linkedin in groups for your industry
      3. Create content around it on YouTube or Facebook live
    2. You might be offering it for $5 the first time but you are learning… you are using this time to under promise and over deliver, streamline your process, and get your first order and first 5 star review under your belt. Then you’ll be off to the races and hopefully you can get referrals for even more work!
  1. Get more orders, add to your offers, increase prices with your experience level, and GROW to move off platform
    1. That’s right, fees on platforms like fiverr and upwork can be very high. So once you get really good at a skill and you have lots of referrals, you can build your own Facebook Page, website and start offering your own services. Create content on content platforms like youtube, linkedin, facebook live, tiktok… become the trusted expert

COORDINATE A SERVICE (AKA Dropservicing or Contracting)

Maybe you’re not a graphic designer, but you are really good at paying attention to details and moving a project from start to finish. The steps to this process are nearly identical to the previous “offer a service” steps we went over. Here’s the difference:

The steps to offering a service are as follows:

  1. BRAINSTORM: Make a list of things big projects you’ve been a part of
    1. Designing a marketing campaign
    2. Planning a Party
    3. Overseeing a website design
    4. Ordering and approving a logo or service from a 3rd party for work
  1. Figure out what services people are asking for. Get data from –
    1. Your Industry – Cyber Security, Retail, etc (for example, I knew my clients needed websites built and I knew what things they wanted on them, but I’m not a web designer, so I designed the process and hired the freelancers to make it happen)
    2. Freelancer Websites (Fiverr, Upwork, comprehensive list on https://moderndayjobs.com/)
    3. Narrow down your list to the ones you’re most interested in
  1. Decide on the delivered product (Final Product)
    1. From your list of the potential services you could deliver, choose the easiest one to get started with and decide what your final product will look like and write it down. This is what your customer will get.
      1. For example: With web design they get a basic website with 3 pages and menus and a ready installed template)
    2. Determine the steps to take to get to the final product
      1. Determine Information needed from Customer AND THE FREELANCERS to do the work – now you’ll need to study other offers and work with freelancers to determine their process and how long it takes so you can coordinate the whole project.
      2. Create an image to communicate your offer to customers searching for it. Use Canva.com and create custom dimensions based on the platform requirements.
    4. Advertise the offer and get your first customer (aka your mentor)
      1. You should tell people about your offer and it should be an AMAZING deal!
        1. There is a subreddit called r/slavelabor that will allow you to offer your service nearly free to get your first order.
        2. Post it on linkedin in groups for your industry
        3. Post it on Facebook in groups, to your friends list “do you know anyone looking for a ___________, I’m just getting started and I’d love your referral”
      2. You should be charging just enough to cover your costs but you are learning… you are using this time to under promise and over deliver, streamline your process, and get your first order and first 5 star review under your belt. Then you’ll be off to the races and hopefully you can get referrals for even more work!
    5. Get more orders, add to your offers, increase prices with your experience level, and GROW to move off platform
      1. That’s right, fees on platforms like fiverr and upwork can be very high. So once you get really good at a skill and you have lots of referrals, you can build your own website and start offering your own services.
